Maria Karabetsou is a visual artist based in Athens. She is currently in her fourth year of studies at the Department of Visual and Applied Arts, University of Western Macedonia, and has completed the annual program Art Therapy with an emphasis on visual arts at the University of the Aegean.
Her practice moves between mixed-media painting and photography, exploring states of psychological displacement and ambiguity. Drawing from surrealism and the concept of the uncanny, she approaches landscape not as a geographical entity but as a psychic terrain. Spaces, figures, and images function as carriers of internal tension, where the familiar becomes unstable and reality acquires dreamlike, subterranean qualities.
She has participated in group exhibitions in Greece, including Time of Art Gallery (September 2025), the Dimitris Mytaras Gallery in Chalkida, and exhibitions organized by the municipalities of Ilioupoli, Piraeus and Athens.
